So the grant I am working under says that I should have an average of 90 students in after school activities daily. My average is currently 35, up from 34. Actually February alone averaged 44 but it is pretty hard to raise the average of the year with one month of increased programming. I have not been happy about how far short I am, however I also think this was an inflated goal and not very realistic. Other grant people can tell me if this is common in grant type work or not.
So I figured that to have 90 regular participants in my programs takes 6 staff. If you assume that attendance is about 80% for registered students based on many factors then having 90 students registered produced actual attendance of about 72 students. I flipped the equation around and put 90 in for what I wanted and found out that I needed to register over 100 students (112.5) in daily programming and have closer to 7.5 staff to support that. All fall I had 3 staff, and one could only work 5 hours a week
I am going to use this information wisely. Rather than suggest to my supervisor that she and the other person who wrote the grant should not drink strong alcoholic beverages while writing grants, I am going to use this to really see what it looks like to have programming at a school that averages 90 students in attendance daily. How many staff, how many rooms, what schools under our grant are doing close to this and what does it look like? Does it mean that many days I will have at least 100 students somewhere in the building in programs? The other part of this was that I really like doing the figuring and data of all this, the math is fun. And sometimes I get very sad that I did not use math in my career more,
