View Full Version : Question about Facebook
When I start to type one of my friend's name in the top part where the search is on my Facebook page, all sorts of crap comes up that I'm not in the least bit interested in. All I want is the list of my friends, whose names started with those few letters......but instead, it gives me several pages of stuff/people I've never seen or heard of. How the heck can I get rid of that stuff? Its so irritating. Its like they are forcing you to look at it, before you can get to your friends.
I hope there's a way to get rid of that.

I haven't joined FB despite entreaties from offsprings and younger friends!
Its a good way for me to keep eyes on my kids. :)
Cathy, the easiest way to get to your friends list is to access it from your own profile page. Click on the friends box, and choose list all. It will then take you to the list of your friends. You can search among your friends only from there. Hope this helps.
Thanks for that tip Tradd!
You're welcome! One advantage to accessing FB on a smartphone is that there is actually a sidebar menu item that takes you directly to your friends list. But then, you can't edit your comments (unlike when accessing on a computer), so positives and negatives for both ways of accessing FB.
Can you be part of Facebook without having your own page?
I'm infatuated with Bronson Pinchot and his new show on DIY and read his Facebook entries every day. I've no interest in having a page of my own but would love to add comments to his page. Is this possible?
No, Pony Mom, you cannot. However, you do NOT have to fill out all the info on a personal FB page. I've known people to have a page in a fake name (or one with an ancestor several generations back!). You don't need to use a pic of you, you could use your avatar here. You could use a throwaway email address just for FB (I think someone else here does that).

What Tradd said. It's technically against Facebook's terms of service, but, hey, rules are made to be broken, right? >8)
I do give Facebook an email address that is not my primary email. Nothing wrong with that as long as it's a real email. And, of course, registering on Facebook does not demand participation or providing them any more information than what is required.
I hadn't thought about Bronson Pinchot since "Perfect Strangers". We watched it every Friday night with our kids! It was really funny.
Pony Mom..........I thought your post read that you were "infuriated" with him. I checked out his FB page and couldn't figure out what you might be so mad about.
Then I came back and re-read your post, and saw that it wasn't "infuriated" after all. haha

Fake name (I can't even remember what it is - Jane Doe?), fake throwawy e-mail account attached to nothing in my real life, no photo or even an avatar, no friends, no info at all, all security stuff engaged, etc... I just use it to occasionally access facebook to spy...er I mean look at other people's fb pages. I have never posted to another's FB page though and don't know if you can do that without "friending" them first.
My facebook is just for friends and family. I'm amazed at how many people have it available to the whole world. I think that's crazy.
I think Facebook lies too. I've had it say that so-and-so wants to be friends with me, when they didn't.
Both my cats have FB pages... I am always amazed when they get a 'friend' request. Their pages are where I go when I want to lurk.

Before Facebook, I interacted with most of my 6 siblings once twice a year. Now, we communicate almost daily.
Except my older brother, who is in a maximum security prison. I understand they don't allow Facebook there. We communicate the old fashioned way... by mail.
I just posted some information about my recent cancer diagnosis to my 602 FB contacts. I decided to go public after alerting all my close family & friends privately. I'm hoping to use this experience as an awareness & educational moment. It will be interesting to see what responses I get. Being an extrovert, FB is one of my fav places to hang out! And now, to the garden. Happy spring!
<the next day>
And as of this morning I have over fifty beautiful messages, both public & private, many from women sharing their hysterectomy stories with me, others offering help during post-surgery, two sending books, one sending me a CD, another offering to go on walks with me...It's been so delightful to read these messages! This is why I love this medium.
