Did anyone else catch the 25th Year Anniversary of the play performed in London that aired on PBS last night?
If you did, did you find it sublime?
I'm still humming the score today...and what love the actors and the audience shared.
And what a production -- 300 talented people strong.
Why isn't TV like this more often--it was truly elevating.
I didn't see the show, but I have a funny Les Mis story. I was in London on a school trip in the summer of 1990. Went to the half price ticket booth with a friend who was a musical fan, and we were thrilled to score cheap tickets to Les Mis. Our seats were on the main floor, on the side, just under the balcony. We were totally stoked because we thought we had made a frugal score. Stoked until the second act started with the building of the barricade -- from that point on we had a lovely view of all the performers' FEET! Then it finally became obvious why our seats were so cheap: the balcony totally obstructed the view of the performance once the barricade went up. The music was lovely, but to this day I can't hear a song from Les Mis without breaking into laughter...

We saw some of the most wonderful London shows by just going to the box office day of the show and asking about returns. Saw Phantom from the front row balcony and Lion King on the floor about 6 rows back for the regular ticket price. They were both advertised as being sold out. I really disliked standing in the half price lines.
