Look for one suitcase, 14 pieces, 30 outfits for a sample how to.
Some people here have done the challenge before. Any tips from your experience with the challenge? What clothes would you choose differently from last time?
I already have fewer items than that, but I am always looking for more ways to streamline my life. I will go look in my closet just to make sure.
1 coat
1 jacket
1 scarf
1 heavy shawl, to go over my coat, here in the Tundra
3 pairs of pants, traveler's fabric
3 sleeveless tops, traveler's fabric
10 tops, overshirts, are worn as a light-weight jacket over the tops and pants
1 very fancy jacket for when someone makes me dress-up, but it takes at least two people to hold me down, put on the jacket and drag me out of the house. True.
3 pair gloves, 2 little stretchy ones, 1 heavy-duty for shoveling snow
1 pair of regular shoes
1 pair of athletic shoes, bought for whenever I actually use my YMCA membership (came free with my insurance)
1 pair house slippers
I think that adds up to 27 items.
I initially bought the pants and sleeveless tops, but have since purchased a bolt of the fabric (50%-off coupon at the fabric store) and make new ones as I need them, probably every 6-7 years. It is close to needing to do that again, probably sometime this summer.
It is insanely easy to dress myself, as all I have is what is essentially a uniform. Professional enough to be worn to my jobs, sufficiently casual to not appear over-dressed at other times. I also wear the same things whatever the season.
33 items of outerwear makes good sense to me. I have 41 including 6 pairs of shoes, but I'm holding on to all of them since my budget has no room for buying clothes or shoes for the foreseeable future. As it is, I can get dressed for 10 days straight without having to do laundry, more if I repeat slacks now and then. Attrition will eventually bring me down to 33.
I have Monday and Tuesday off---I'm going to tinker with this and see if it's even do-able for me. If I have to count every bracelet and pr. of earrings in the 33, I may be wearing lots of things over and over. Eek!
Personally I'm disinclined to count jewelry. Adornment for me is a separate category from clothing. I have to get dressed to go anywhere (by both law and custom), but there's no requirement to wear jewelry. IMHO if it isn't cloth it isn't clothes.
As a simplicity exercise I do see the value of a separate jewelry system, to simplify jewelry.
