View Full Version : Found this ironic- women's shapewear

I needed a new slip, and figured that since I had to make a purchase anyways, I'd go for one of those ones that hold you in, or at least smooth out those lumps and bulges a bit.

I wear a size 8 in clothes, and I had to buy a XL slip (and it really is a little too small for me). Its ironic to me that they make these hold-you-in garments for the sizes that don't really need that. A aize 2 must be the small.

As a true XL (16-18) let me assure you that this is common in clothing, and pretty damn ridiculous!

There is really no size standard in women's clothing now. If they add a little stretch to the clothes, I have to up the size I look for by at least 2 sizes. I don't want skin tight clothes.

I agree. I've pretty much given up on mail-order clothing because I have such bad luck anymore on sizing. There seems to be no consistency.

(and as to shapewear: oh I love love love my new Spanx piece. It was expensive but worth every penny - and now that I think about it, sized correctly too. I can once again leave the house in tees and cute tops without feeling like a blobby no-class old lady.) :)

Yes, both ironic.. and ridiculous, however, heaven forbid if a manufacturer left-out a figure size.

UGH! No way would you ever find me squeezing into some any garment that wasn't comfortable even if they did smooth out things - so no spanx for me! But I also see that clothing sizes seem to be vastly different from each other. A size 6 in one pair of jeans is really a 4, and a size 6 in another is really an 8. Guess it's a manufacturers design. I just hold something up and if it looks like it fits then I'll get it irregardless of what the size label says. But then I don't shop online so usually try things on at the store.

No thanks to Spanx, is right, Spartana! LOL!

No thanks to Spanx, is right, Spartana! LOL! You said it!!:devil: Although I can see that if you were wearing a skin tight dress in a clingy material it could tuck in anything that may bulge. However, I think that I'd then just choose to wear something flattering but looser then have to wear spanx or anything like that (no slips either). I live wear it's hot and it just soundsdown right uncomfortable.

I struggle with the summer heat, so anything tight or restrictive is out. I even go pantie-less at night (summertime), because, and I wear grannies!

I agree that for summer I'll probably chuck it in a drawer.....but as for this month's weather: the thing is so comfortable I am able to forget I'm wearing it. Truly. Not at all like the girdles and such we grew up with.

I check a website where women talk about wedding dresses, and I see so many of the tight polyester dresses (mermaid styles) that surely restrict girls to walking like ducks, and then they put spanx on underneath. For a June wedding. Oh yeah, that's what I want to be on my wedding day, a sweat factory.

It also amuses me that the level of formality for "beach weddings" is growing so that satin and lace and bling and headpieces and formal veils and heels is now the norm. Seldom is anyone doing a barefoot-on-the-beach-in-a-flowy-dress event.

I am much more impressed with a dress that is at least somewhat modest. I am waiting for the days of the reality shows where the bride "falls" out of her dress. Something about weddings has gotten so lost in the show.

And don't get me started on Bridezillas or the shows about "the dress". Do any of these people realize just how common and selfish they appear?

Glad to be a guy!!!The good thing is, that as women, we can choose to wear that kind of stuff, or do all the grooming, hair and make-up stuff, or not. We have the oppotunity to change our looks pretty easily (and dramticly) whenever we want just for variety. So that's one of the pluses. And of course variety IS the spice of life :-)! And of course without Spanx, those nightly LA weather-girls with the skin tight dresses you probably watch every night (you know the ones I'm talking about i.e. jackie Johnson) wouldn't look quite the same :-)!

I've been thinking about wearing waist cincher shape wear. Saw this site that has a large selection of sexy shape wear (http://best-waist-cinchers.com/). Has anyone ever worn these?

Thanks,

Bobbie
