"All my work has been around understanding why human dysfunction happens. Not looking at causes - not at people’s pre-dispositions or genetic inheritance - but what actually happens in people’s lives. We know now that the determinants of health - whether we’re talking physical health, emotional – has a lot to do with people’s life experiences. So I’ve been exploring that a lot in all four of my books.
But people’s lives don’t happen in a vacuum. It occurs in the context of society. What makes people healthy or sick has a lot to do with the kind of lives they lead. And those lives are played out in the context of a society and a culture. The way that society is organized, its values, the pressures it generates on people, the expectations, how people treat each other, how they’re educated, what their values are – these all have a huge impact on people’s health."

Very interesting article.

he has been to our little island to speak, so I think he comes from around Vancouver. He is very popular here.

I've noticed some of the people in my life who are very sick lash out. They attack and pounce, verbally. I'm not sure if it's because they are in pain, on medication, or both. I do an hour of sacred chants every a.m. and yoga each evening. It really helps me. I spend at least an hour in nature each day, and I also knit, which is very meditative. Herbs in cooking and teas are great to raise the vibration. Loving time with animals brings me back to a nurturing space, too. I've also started confronting people who are verbally abusive and naming the behavior. Some of them are totally unaware. I guess that's what their emotional climate is like at home and at work. Such a shame...

It's part of yoga. Musicians, dancers, and artists are usually drawn to it. They are basically prayers that are sung, in Sanskrit or Gurmuhki. The Catholics have Gregorian chant, which is also beautiful. And the Buddhists have chants, as well. I do some by Snatam from www.spirit (http://www.spiritb)voyage.com. She is a Sikh. I practice Kundalini Yoga, and they're connected.
