This could go under holidays as well. Does anyone want to share their special menu for Easter or other holidays this time of year?

I am making (our tradition)
* chicken curry
* rice with peas
* curried vegetables
* split pea dal
* yogurt raita
* carrot cake

I am being pretty simple, the chicken curry is with a jarred sauce, but everyone likes it.

Our holiday meal is a potluck brunch at our church. I'll be taking an asparagus frittata, and probably a large quantity of roasted asparagus as well.

The extended family has declared Easter the one holiday a year where no one has to plan, shop, cook or clean up. We're going out to a lovely brunch, then back to my house for tea, cake and Easter baskets for the younger generation.

No muss, no fuss, everyone gets to eat exactly what they want with no arguing. And there's a chocolate fountain to keep the kids occupied while the adults talk. (The kids are very well behaved at the chocolate fountain.)

We are going to a gourmet Mexican buffet. You order the entrée you want and the appetizers and desserts are served buffet style. It is fun and they are nice people. Mom will never have had anything like it.

We had our special meal last night - fresh smoked ham roast from a local butcher, tossed salad, corn, squash, green beans, homemade dill and sweet pickles with homemade strawberry icecream and fresh banana bread to finish with our tea.

Leftovers? :)

Seriously, we are banding together with another dozen people or so to serve Easter Brunch at the "big" Ronald McDonald House in town. These families (they expect about 70-75 diners) are away from home and handling the severe illness of one of their own as well as the stress caused by not being around what's familiar to them. So what is essentially a home-cooked meal will -- we hope/we know -- help make this holiday a little nicer. We'll be bringing about 20 pounds of ham and will do set up/prep/cooking (eggs to order this time), serving, and clean up.

By then I expect we'll be too pooped to pop. rrrrr

When it comes to Easter, anything goes around our house. Sometimes we get-together with family for the occasion (supper), while other times we have a quiet holiday (just ourselves), and as far as food goes, it changes year by year. Turkey, sometimes, ham and potato salad, other times... and even standard meat and potatoes makes it's way to the table to celebrate. Nothing serious or planned per se.

oh crap, I was just going to say: um no I'll be going into work and/or working outdoors but I just realized that no, I won't be going into work, the building will be closed.

Well then. Perhaps I'll work outdoor. If I had though ahead, I woule have thawed the turkey in our freezer.

This is similar to what I prefer to make at home. I add baby peas though. However the cost of a leg of lamb is so high. I'm burned out on family feast making. Just done. It's lasagna and rolls and a salad. I know, not traditional, but I really am not enjoying cooking anymore. Would love that lamb though!

I've dropped Easter - tomorrow will be just Sunday here. That said it's my daughter's birthday next week so we're having a dinner anyway, her choice on the meal. Roast chicken, gravy, mashed potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, a salad, and vegan chocolate cake (in case any one is wondering why vegan cake after chicken, birthday daughter has migraines and dairy and eggs are triggers).

Last year I was burned out on family feast thing as well - we barbecued.

I love Easter. It's one of my favorite holidays. It was always a big deal in my family growing up and I like to carry that on. It brings me a lot of happiness.

Ham, potato salad, deviled eggs, asparagus, spinach salad and rolls.
I was going to do a chocolate pie for dessert although that's not particularly Easter-y.

Haven't had any kind of Easter doings since we had small children... And then, an egg hunt & that was it. On my Easter agenda~ getting chard, spinach, beets, and more salad greens planted!

We're finally going to have some nice warmish weather here tomorrow, and the whole family wants to BBQ. Sounds good to me! Figuring out side dishes as I type. :) Haven't been able to cook outside for months...

Spring lamb is expensive here, too!
I've tried to cook it in different ways from just a roast, but the family were up in arms about it, so I now keep to the traditional!

You're referring to Easter Sunday, is that right? If so, then it's church then brunch at a restaruant. It's special for me because I don't have to plan, prepare, cook, eat and clean up. I can just enjoy the day and celebrate my Risen Lord.

We've invited DH's "bachelor buds" for dinner. And I'm always pretty traditional for Easter, so.....

baked ham
cheesy scalloped potatoes
steamed and buttered asparagus
deviled eggs and a few relishes
(I may add a cold pea salad to the menu - haven't decided yet)
and chocolate/caramel "poke" cake, just 'cause it used up some pantry/freezer items that were getting old

I'm going to Ishbel's house. I'll bring you a Cadbury bunny.

Seriously, DH went to the local poultry guy the other day and bought $30 worth of frozen chicken sausage, turkey burgers and duck breast, and then left it in the car by mistake and it thawed, so looks like we're having a smorgasbord of birds.

You'd be welcome! We had 10 for lunch. Others are tidying up the kitchen, so here I sit with my ipad and a glass of wine:treadmill:

That's funny, we almost always have a garden work day on Easter. I remember so many people chatting about "what are you doing for Easter" over the years and I always stop to think: well, we aren't doing ANYTHING for the holiday. We just don't. It's one of those precious spring days off form work to work in the garden. DH is out there right now.

I'm going to clean house for an house then go outside to pick up dog poo and tree trash from winter.

Love, love, love it. Lots of Americans don't have a taste for Lamb.

I'd say 8 times out of 10 it rains on Easter Sunday. Though the last two were ok, (sprinkles are fine) today it is flat out raining.
