So I have had the whole day to sit here, and I made our fave lentil soup. Then I decided to make bread and I did. I have 2 loaves of pretty decent bread here, I even skipped a last rising step and just baked it. Super yum, and glad to know I still got those homemaking moves!

A SNOW day? Really? That's just so wrong...on so many levels!
Yea for bread! And fires in the fireplace, and soup, and....but not snow! Not in April!

Sounds perfect on a snowy day. Glad it came out good for you!

Yeah for you Zoe Girl - and there must be something in the air today as I also made 2 loaves of homemade bread this evening, and mine would also be categorized as "pretty decent". (I am not a bread baker.) Mine was English toasting bread, akin to English muffins - it's the only recipe I've tried so far that I can't mess up! A single-rising bread using rapid-rise yeast.

And like you mine is to go with our homemade soup (tomorrow - I'm making chicken-noodle soup).

It's this late spring storm/bad weather, isn't it? Gotta get our last winter cold-weather comfort-foods fix in, don't we?

That's great. I make all my own bread desserts. I love it. The last loaf I made was cracked pepper cheese bread. ~Yum~! Must be soup making weather. I made a beef stew the other day. I made soda crackers from scratch to go with it. All that stuff is so cheap and it's just delicious! Next on the menu is rhubarb pie with homegrown rhubarb!

Wow. It's around 75 degrees out here and blooming!

awakenedsoul: (1) not that I would ever actually do it, but am totally intrigued with the idea of making homemade saltines (soda crackers). Tell us about them. and (2) rhubarb. blech! :)

Well the soda crackers are more like salty cakes or scones. They're good in stew, though. I think the recipe just has flour, sour milk, salt, baking powder, and butter. I just like making that stuff because it's so much cheaper than buying it. Plus, I don't waste all the packaging. I love rhubarb! I'm almost to the point where I don't have to buy fruit anymore. I may add a few more fruit trees that will produce in the summer.
