View Full Version : Question about our Maytag dishwasher

In talking about dishwashers I thought I would bring up my issue with my new Maytag dishwasher. It never dries out inside. The dishes and glasses get dry but the inside of the washer is always wet. There is no standing water but I am concerned about bacteria/mold/mildew forming eventually. We were thinking of calling the service person to have them look at it. Every dishwasher we have had when the load was done on the inside of the unit was dry as well....

Thanks for your help!

Do check into it (for sure) Tussie, and at best, as a measure of good practice and hygiene, leave the door open afterwards to allow moisture to evaporate, and/or, wipe dry after use, because mold, mildew, and odours, are a definite reality when it comes to anything damp or wet.

Tussiemussies, many modern dishwashers are designed with the assumption that you will use some sort of rinse aid to dry the dishes faster. Do you use one? My dishwasher (an ASKO) requires it; a while ago I started using just plain white vinegar in the rinse-aid dispenser and it works as well as Jet-Dry or similar products ever did. I can tell the difference when the dispenser is empty. My dishwasher does not stay wet inside.

Something else to try: if you frequently find rinse water pooled on the bottoms of dishes and food-storage tubs or spoons or such, you might want to rearrange items in the dishwasher so that water falling down on those items slides off to the bottom of the dishwasher, where it can be drained out. It wouldn't hurt to look at the bottom of the dishwasher tub, either, to make sure a jar label or somesuch isn't blocking the drain and keeping the dishwasher from emptying in its allotted time.

Thanks so much Steve, we don't use a rinse aid so I am going to try that to see if it remedies the problem. There isn't anything stuck in the bottom, so I really hopes this works. We do have the warranty still so there is that option. Thanks for helping me!

Thanks Mrs. m for your advice. Until this is remedied I will have to wipe it out as you said....thanks for your advice!
