I went to a garage sale today and was talking to the owner who talked about her 87 year old mother. The mother was going to travel from CA to MI. The daughter asked if she needed help with getting flights and the mother stated "WHY would I need help"? The mother went on line and made her own reservations! I think it is so refreshing to hear of elderly folks keeping up with the times and using modern technology. I can only hope I will be as mentally competent (if I live that long)!!!

I feel the same frugal-one. I already feel like I am behind technology but I think I am jumping in a little.
Of course we can live long. I used to always tell my Mom we are like older cars that have to be maintained with white kid gloves. There is so much information and even more will come out as time goes on... :)
No one should be limited so that is a great goal.i
My mother, 71, is on the cutting-and-bleeding edge of technology, and puts me to shame. She has an iPod, a Bluetooth, a laptop (Mac, of course), a smartphone, and gosh knows what else. I have a five year old laptop and a "dumb" pay-as-you-go phone. She recently emailed me to ask what kind of productivity apps I used! I told her, "uh, a calendar? And, uh, little scraps of paper?"
In response to my helpful advice, she's now using Evernote and has moved all her storage to "the cloud." Oh, and in her free time she taught herself Mac's version of Excel so she could digitize her quilting club's lending library!
That is absolutely wonderful! When my mother calls I need to just start answering with an Indian accent because too often it's about a computer issue. I have a new found respect for those overseas call operators solving complicated problems presented by those who don't have a clue what they are describing.
It's so easy now to just learn various programs online via Lynda or Digital Classroom type books now. No excuses to not learn if someone wants to. Currently learning Photoshop via a Digital Classroom book and utilizing the 1month trial to Adobe's Creative Cloud Suite :)
Selah's recommendation of Evernote is good. LOVE this app, it has helped me organize everything from all my loose receipes to my latest art proposal, incl notes w/photos and clips from webpages.

Interesting on how I think 87 is worthy of admiration and someone else thinks 71! Shows who is older! lol

Ha Ha - so true. A much younger friend told me about a PBS TV show episode on yesterday (a show called Growing Bolder) he said was about "old" women who ride motorcycles ( I ride but didn't consider myself old and figured the show was about people over 65) so I watched it and it was mostly women in their mid 40 's to upper 40's and early 50's My age group!! So guess I'm officially an oldster now :-) Of course when it comes to technology I was a dinosaur in my thirties so doubt that will ever change.
