View Full Version : health insruance is going up $70 a month, sigh
So I think I actually make less than when i started here 3 years ago, I need to follow up with this because I pay the health insurance for the children and I need to have an adjustment from their dad. I am hoping to find a quick way to deal with that, however the recent issues with our bankruptcy has shown that between him and his lawyer I cannot expect anything approaching effective communication from either one.
Okay gottz complete the sign up process.

Zoe girl - Do you know if you could be eligible for subsidized health insurance on the exchanges. The Berkeley calculator states that households can be eligible if they are not "offered affordable coverage through their employer." It doesn't sound like your current insurance is affordable for you.
What would your rates be under ACA?

It looks like it would affect us, I am not sure how the whole thing works. I get credit from my employer but still the kids are a huge amount on top of that. I love our care at least,
Interestng thing was that I put in my income originally without the child support and was listed as Medicare, then with child support we qualified for tax breaks.
Was this at all in effect this last year? i am getting a very large tax return. My W2 seemed to have additional information about health insurance listed as well. I have not paid much attention the last couple years but I am wondering about getting a tax preparer to look over the last few years for me. there is an effect with the bankruptcy after all, but there is always another car repair to spend it down
If your daughter is moving out, why are you still carrying insurance for her?

No, eligible people may sign up through the exchanges in October for health insurance coverage starting January 1, 2014. There are no pre-existing clauses and children also get subsidized dental care.
There are many other low income based programs like food stamps, reduced energy rates, lifeline phone service, reduced water rates you might want to check into to see if you are eligible if you have not already done so. You might be able to make up the $70 or more with reductions in other expenses or you might be able to reduce your insurance expenses with the subsidized insurance, if you qualify for that.

Because I can, and it doesn't cost me any extra. I pay the same for 2 kids as I would for 3, and she like many young adults has no access to health insurance. You can cover your children until 26 now without requirements for school or dependancy, thank goodness for that! So many people would have no coverage, she works full time and is not offered anything at work.
