Apartment in Seattle

I can see how there could be a tiny niche market for this kind of thing. Pun intended.
Yeah, I can see living in something like this. Don't know if I ever will, but I would absolutely love to try.
Good use of space. But i always wonder why people take up valuable storage space with a dishwasher. I'm sure it's possible to wash everything in a sink (or the shower if you have to). I grew up without a dishwasher and we have one here now and never use it. Rather take it out and make it into a cabinet.
same, pony mom.
DH and I are looking at getting a combination washer/dryer, which we could put where our dishwasher is in the kitchen. Then putting another fridge or an upright freezer in the laundry room (so we can buy in bulk direct from farm).
I like the houses that were in one of the advertising links on that site: fabcab.com. My favorite was the one that was 850 square feet. I could see myself living in that, with the high ceilings and big windows I wouldn't feel so claustrophic. I also like that the spaces can be left open unless there is a need to close them off. would put a Murphy bed in the second bedroom and use that space for yoga and/or an office, as well as the occasional guest room.
I'm with you, herbgeek, re the Fabcab house. I'd move in in a minute!

In contrast, here's another very small space, 165 sq. feet, that is "prettier" but I don't think it is as functional.

While this one looks very stylish, I'd hate to have to lift the lid on the sink every single time I needed a drop of water. And I can't really picture myself flopping down on my stomach every morning to retrieve clothing from the "closet." And I know I'd push my chair back and fall off the platform at some point. In fairness, this is the owner's second home, so he probably has most of his stuff in the other house. I think this place sacrificed comfort and ease at the expense of good looks.
The one Redfox posted, on the other hand, looks like someone actually lives there. It incorporates more storage--he even has a bike! And you aren't having to move X and lift Y in order to access Z, which, frankly, would drive me batty if I had to do that on a daily basis. He has a place to relax and watch TV, two different tables and chairs, a workspace, a second bed. It's small and cramped, but it looks like a home and not a showpiece.
FabCab is a Seattle firm! Very cool. Here is another I love: http://www.modern-shed.com/
