I am a vitamin believer.....right or wrong (and there is too much conflicting info out there for me to know). But for me, and my health, I believe.

Have always bought the cheap stuff at Wal-Mart. And then I recently read an article that tells me that I'm probably wasting my money on the cheap generic vitamins, based on the article's list(s) of ingredients. I'm ready to upgrade.

But I live in the boonies so will be mail-ordering. Looking for suggestions of quality online vitamin companies. I really don't want to have to read every last list of ingredients in what I'm ordering, or looking for the fine print. Just hoping for a reputable company that sells quality vitamins/supplements that I could order from with some degree of confidence.

Thanks!

Hi Blackdog,

We use Nature's Made vitamins and I think they are effective since I use them for a regime that my Dr. Put me on and I felt a difference, although included in the mix is a med-vitamin. My Dr. says she uses Nature's Made. There probably are some other better brands out there but these seem to do the trick.

For purchasing online we use iherb.com which has very good prices and free shipping over a certain amount.

There is a brand I use for herbs called Nature's Way that is also very effective if you want to use capsules etc.

Try iherb.com -- lots of people here use them because they have great discounts on mainstream brands and great international shipping rates.

I like the vitamins (and herbal supplements) from Dr. Weil. His website has a lifestyle and health questionnaire that you answer and it gives you recommendations as to which vitamins and herbal supplements you might benefit from taking.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will look them all up later this week.

The article I read said that if the first ingredient in your multi-vitamin was calcium carbonate, then you were likely only getting 10% or so of the actual vitamins into your body (i.e. they're mainly filler ingredients). And guess what my multi ingredient list started with? Yep. And since the other vitamins I take are similar generic brands - well, that's what got me thinking that it was time to upgrade to a better-quality brand.

I buy all of our supplements from http://swansonvitamins.com As an example, they sell calcium citrate with magnesium, a 150 ct bottle, for $3.99. I'm sure there's something wrong to be found with all online vitamin vendors, but I like them as a one-stop-shopping kind of place.

I've used vitacost.com for years. Great prices and brands, lots of choices, and they stock a lot of natural foods items as well.
