We only had 40 of the 60 kids but I think we did a great job, no big confusions, only one kid with tears all day, we remembered sunscreen, stuck to our schedule, worked with the 1/2 day ELA academy in the building that was totally unprepared for their day, and had a lot of happy kids and parents.
We have a little bit of complication in the schedule so we can do some great projects, I am excited for the older kids to get to do technology. That should help with the older kid behavior issues. My staff has some great ideas as well they want to do.
But can I say, and I told my supervisor this as well, the staff I have is awesome. I was very stressed because of the type of staff I have had all year. Before they left for summer I asked them to do inventory, they just didn't do it. It was a comedy of errors with not understanding the form, not asking questions and then when I told them directly to do it now they sat there until I lost my temper and told them "can you just do this now so I don't get my ass busted for it". Summer staff is taking initiative, some of them are totally new to camp and excited about it, and I don't have to give the level of basic support because they have some good energy. Both year round staff are working part of summer so I will have those difficult conversations with them before the new school year.
Now to deal with our 2 kids on behavior contracts, I will likely put another one on a contract this week. Staff is working with them, so we will see
