My raise ($10K year) showed up in today's paycheck. I decided to celebrate getting my license with a Kindle Paperwhite eReader. Can't wait until it shows up on Monday!:D

$200 for Kindle, cover, and 2 year warranty/insurance. Something nice, but not over the top.

I was wondering how much taxes were going to eat into raise. I'll have an extra $257/paycheck.

Nice reward! Check and see if your local public library system offers e-books. Mine does and it has made life WONDERFUL!

Special hint -- if you turn the wifi off, you can keep the library books on your kindle as long as you want. The signal that the lending period is over won't go to the machine until you go on line the next time. I learned this when I downloaded 10+ books to read over a vacation period but didn't get through all of them. One batch of downloads then lasted me about 6 months.

Congrats again on the promotion and your raise. You have definitely earned it. Hope you are maxing out retirement already -- if not, I'd put some of the extra money toward that.

Electronic tools/toys make a most excellent reward, don't they?

A Paperwhite question:

Has anyone done a magazine subscription on theirs? How well does the interface work?

Thanks, all!

lhamo, actually there is no promotion. That's gone the way of the dodo. But I got the raise. Things have calmed down massively at work. New manager in my department is working out nicely so far.

As for the money, I have car repairs and some major dental work that need to be done.

Tradd, that increase in salary is HUGE and is a great statement of recognition.

I know of other situations where it goes the other way: employee gets "promotion" but the money doesn't follow.

You've got the better deal. Money is our friend. :D

Congratulations, and I agree, that's a great personal reward. Don't forget to poke around on Amazon for all their lists of free e-books (all the "classics", lots of references, and a rotating list of newer material). Have fun with your new toy!

UPDATE:

My Kindle goes with me everywhere. I am reading so much. I'm currently working my way through the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series again (been a while since I read them). Lot of non-fiction, too. I was up until about 4 this morning reading, I was so engrossed in the book! :)

I just got a Kindle Fire from my husband for an early birthday present (there were running a special that he didn't want to miss). I'm just starting to learn all about it, but so far I gotta say WOW!
