LOL! I think my first mistake was not letting the bales "ripen" long enough. I didn't want to use any chemical fertilizers, so I used fairly cured chicken poop and bedding. Then I used about 2" of compost on top. I didn't want to water it every day either. The carrots are just now growing, but I doubt they'll turn into carrots. The spinach bolted before we got to use any. The rosemary is holding its own, but not thriving. And the pepper plant is growing miniature weird things.

I think I'll probably stick to the old fashioned way of doing things........planting things in the ground.
But it was a fun experiment.........sort of..........well..........maybe not. haha
I'm going to leave the 2 bales there over winter and maybe I'll be tempted to try it again next year, with more ripened/cured bales.

That's a good idea, leaving the bales for next year. I bet it will work better. Makes sense.
