I work under a 10 month contract, paid 12 monthly paychecks, and I have the option of working extra programs over summer break or other breaks for extra pay adding up to about $2K - $3K. I am in the grant based world which is interesting.

So there is another job that is the same basic thing, year round, and the pay is slightly more or maybe not. Two reasons to apply is to keep moving forward career wise, and so I do not have the same supervisor. I think that it could be a good thing. My current supervisor is challenging, but I hear that the department is noticing the issues that I have been struggling with all over. I know I have some credit in the department for being able to work with her.

So I think I may apply, however I still want to apply for higher paying jobs.

Keep applying for what interests you and expect that you will learn more from each occurrence. Best wishes on your success!

Apply. You never know what might happen. If you get an offer and it doesn't look like a good fit or offer what you need, you can always negotiate, or politely decline. We're gearing up for some hires in our office and once again as I review resumes I am conscious of how I am already thinking of people/positions I could suggest to candidates who are strong but not the right fit for what we are looking for now. Maybe I'm rare, but all you need is one person like me to pass on your resume or contact info to one of their contacts and your possibilities have just expanded dramatically.

^^^ What lhamo said. You really have nothing to lose here except a little of your time.

I agree with those who say apply - you never know what will happen and you can always turn down the job if offered. I'd personally prefer a 10 month school type job myself and would rather have that free time than a year round position. But if a year round position suits you better than go for it!

I also agree with applying.

I'm the sort of gal that needs to chase down a few blind alleys. I'm doing it right now. It allows me to gather information and KNOW what i want to do. I don't know unless I have all of the information. :)
