I'm thinking I'm the only person on the planet who didn't know about the trend toward things like this:

https://www.coursera.org/
http://www.moocs.co/Higher_Education_MOOCs.html
http://www.moocs.co/Other_MOOCs.html

MOOC ? "Massively Open Online Courses." Cool things to learn. Free.

I feel like a kid in a candy store. What should I learn about next? Viruses? Animal behavior? The Science of Gastronomy?

Fun.

Wow, that's a lot to look through. I will definitely check this out more. Thanks for the idea.

A few more to add:

- Khan Academy (http://www.khanacademy.org): primarily technology-oriented courses

- iTunes University: free lectures/seminar videos/etc. on a huge variety of subjects. I found this very useful in learning about the art and architecture we saw during our trip to southern Europe a few years ago. It can be accessed from the front page of the iTunes Music Store.

- edX (https://www.edx.org/): free intro courses from MIT, Harvard, and other high-profile Ivy and international universities

There's one other I can't think of right now (woman's name??) so I'm going to dig through my bookmarks.

[EDIT: It's lynda.com (http://www.lynda.com/) . It looks like the courses are primarily for visual arts and they're not free. But I've seen lots of positive comments about it in the blogosphere.]

I love lynda.com. It is responsible for the fact that I APPEAR (technologically speaking) much smarter than I really am ;) Lots of great classes there. One of my goals is to some day take off an entire month's work and purchase a month's free pass to Lynda.com to study whatever I want.

Like I said, geek.

I try to share this video with kids as much as possible. Kids (and adults who say "I don't like/get Math) can benefit from experiencing something fun and quirky and Mathematical, which is really what Math is all about. Too bad the schools can't see it this way.
