View Full Version : Our democracy is doomed...
I can't see how we can continue with a democracy when we have idiots in charge of the news:
Another rush to be first without checking? Only here it is so patently obvious my 12 year old would pick up on this.

Here's the broadcast clip. At least she said "Fook"

Supposedly "confirmed" by NTSB. OK....
Makes me glad we aren't a democracy :-)
Yeah, Sheesh. Here's another...

Seriously?!? Incredibly disrespectful to men as well as women.

I hoped you were wrong, and sorry, I just had to check Snopes.
You are right, this is real. Well, at least we can say that this station is in Oakland. California. There is that.
But dear god, this woman should be fired.

"Bad behavior isn't illegal behavior" say these Supremes. I have to agree with this one.
This is the same court that made gay marriage in Iowa legal, the third state in the nation to do so, and after the populace had voted against it. That one seemed to go your way.
You win some, you lose some.
Hu's on first?
Naturally!

I was shocked at how little respect for men this decision shows. As if they are all unable to control themselves.

So you don't think the Supremes ruled on law, you tink they were going for what was right? I don't. I'll bet they would all agree that the employer is stupid.

That is a gut reaction I have heard today. I prefer to find out who actually gave her the paper. (don't know if this was given to her, live on air, as "breaking news", or 10 minutes before a broadcast)
Didn't her bosses, or somebody approve the "news", etc.
She may be a complete moron, but I would want the idiot behind it to face the music.

She's playing a role, and fully in role probably "enunciate, read the script, make it sound clear, sound upbeat etc. etc." or whatever that role consists of. They don't pay her to think, that's probably true :) But I don't think you do think regardless, when you're reading words passing by that are supposedly given to you to recite, by people who have supposedly checked them, noone would, as it's not the expectation of that context to look for hidden "gotchas". But the person whose role it actually IS to fact check ..

Wow. About what the OP posted, all I can say is Wow! And these are broadcast professionals with a least a Bachelor's Degree and perhaps student debt to go with it, that let this get aired without catching it? Just goes to show education isn't everything, common sense counts for something too, and methinks those responsible for this airing showed a lack of common sense, ya think? Rob

She does give a face to the term "talking head".

She probably did it cold - and even if she caught it what else could she have done except call even more attention to it? Whoever made the graphic, though, likely had more than enough time to sort it out. Disgruntled intern?

Don't know if it was a disgruntled intern, but probably is disgruntled now:

NTSB manager with a sudden shocking insight: this hiring free interns to do the work, while it does cut costs, may not be all it's cracked up to be ...
Well I live in an asian community and saw a delivery truck in my 'hood awhile ago called "Hung Dongs Fat Noodles" so I just assumed those names were real also ;-)! And no, I am not making that up. You can google it and even see images of Hung Dongs Fat Noodles. Lots of odd names in the 'hood.

So, I'm assuming that the relevance of this to the OP is the topic of disrespect? I'm sorry, trying to follow the first post and then follow up with this one left me confused and trying to find the connection. I guess it is the democracy angle. Sorry, no offense.

Certainly keeps things a lot livelier than the names in my wonder bread, Scandinavian 'hood.

So, are you all still wanting her to be fired, or have you thought about it more?

Ok ok, her head doesn't have to roll. It doesn't really matter to me since I'm not in that tv market and will never look at her broadcast, but I'd have a hard time taking her seriously for a loooooooooooooong time after a gaffe like that. She's over 40 (maybe over 50) so perhaps they will use this as an excuse to get rid of her and bring in a new, young talking head.
I don't blame her unless she had time to review it before the broadcast. They hand you something on the air you pretty much have to read it. I'd blame the yahoos who wrote the script/slides.

Well my Cambodian next door neighbors are named Sweetie and Cheeta - Sweetie is the husbands first name and Cheeta is the wife's. Sis and I are the stand outs in myn'hood as two blonde Scandinavians :-) . But some of the businesses in the community are very racy sounding but normal in the community. Probably true in any large Asian community.
I heard this morning Asiana Air is suing the station. Wow. That intern is toast. Wonder why we haven't heard his or her name? It continues to be, at least on our news, just "an intern."
