View Full Version : What the heck did this??
Poor hubby is grieving...this was his baby. Nothing else around was chomped. Can't figure it out. (Not sure why I can't insert the photo here, unless it works after I submit)

Rabbit? Some other rodent? Looks like it started in and thought better of it. But that's enough to do in that particular item. :-(
Exactly my thought. Took a bite and said, "ick." At least you still have the majority of it!
We lost one of our hot peppers this morning to elk. They took a chomp of the whole top of the plant, chewed a little, then spit it out.....but the plant's a goner. Adventures in food gardening.............
I'm having a similar problem with mice in my garden. Instead of eating the whole thing, they take large bites out of a bunch of things.
I'm not sure I'd eat the rest of that pepper.......at least not without cooking it.
We get a lot of squirrels in our garden - everything else is fenced out!
Before we fenced it, raccoons would come every night, take a bite out of each tomato, and leave it hanging on the plant.
A few years ago I went out to collect some tomatoes. I saw a cluster of three together, and when I reached down for them I realized that there was a mouse, relaxing on top of them. haha

We built a 4' fence around the garden, with 2' chicken wire along the bottom. I'm afraid the stray cats can't get in like they used to, and maybe that's why we have so many mice this year.
Racoons can get into any fence! But since we quit growing corn, they don't seem to bother it.
Never had problems with squirrels in the garden either.
The new fence definitely keeps out the bunnies. One year, when we had a dilapidated old short fence, I went to pick some zuchinni and found a nest full of baby bunnies in it. Oh well.........there was enough for everybody.
