Actually it is a class on exploring mediation as a career. I find myself in positions to work out issues with others often, and I get feedback that I am generally calm and capable. It was really low cost to check it out, the teacher does a mediation course through the Free University and at a local college so there are ways to get well certified if I am interested. Wow a career putting myself in situations of conflict, well there is little avoiding after that!

My lazy eyes read this thread title as "Going to a meditation class" and I thought, so? Zoe Girl meditates all of the time.

I see now, this IS something new! Perhaps soon in the future I will think Zoe Girl mediates all of the time, haha!

Me too. Meditation class would be a good place for that too, to fall asleep that is.

Meditation is a great thing! It helped me in many ways. It's so powerful and such a great experience... but it really took me long time to get the real good meditation.

So, is this a certification where you learn to teach meditation classes?

That's pretty cool. I'm in the process of "up-skilling" as well. First, i'm getting more information on postural patterning -- hopefully I'll get that certification by October. Then, I want to start on a second certification on the same material (different method) because I really like that method, too. Right now, I'm working with two people to learn better breathing techniques (i've been doing it wrong), and how to teach mindfulness meditation (specifically). It's pretty exciting. :D

This is a class for lack of a better word where you learn about a career in mediation (not meditation although I do a lot of that and am also working to lead those types of groups). So conflict resolution in the legal system or problem solving between individuals and groups, and how that works to do this work, how to get jobs, what it looks like to work with conflict resolution (mediation is just gonna throw us huh, it would have to be the most serious meditator who wants to do mediation).

On the other side of life I am working on something to teach meditation also, lol

Here's what your shingle should say when you hang it out after you are fully qualified:

Mediation/Meditation, it's all good, come on in

Good idea, I think the meditation can make the mediation more effective after all

following up on class this morning,

It was a very good class. I think I have an understanding of what work as a mediator would be like. The teacher had good advice for me specifically and was encouraging personally. One interest I have is in mediating when students with special needs create a conflict between teacher and family. An important part of the process is to be neutral, I think in my unique position I could be neutral with students and schools that I have not worked with. There are many other areas to work on with mediation as well. Basically dealing with conflict resolution in general is a good background. I also talked to her and we thought my divorce lawyer would be someone to approach for a reference letter based on how I handled myself during my legal issues.

One difficulty is finding time to do the 40 hours and training and then you intern or volunteer to get practice. So I am going to think carefully, but honestly education is not going to pay anytime soon. I will put another push into my application of better paying jobs, but I may be too limited in education.

LOL I totally read that as MEDITATION as opposed to MEDIATION.

Mediation is awesome, btw. I did that in law school and was where I set my other emphasis. It's a great career choice, but i don't know what the financial situation of it is. Great skills though.

Totally awesome to check out, Zoe Girl. :D
