So I already liked my ex's new wife well enough for a person I have never had a conversation with. Now I really like her. She got a full time job at the college she has been working at, which means health insurance. It also means that my ex can put the kids on that health insurance!! When he was laid off a few years ago he was hired back as contract, which means no benefits. I added the kids to my insurance and the cost went up this year as well. So it was becoming a HUGE bill, and originally it was his to pay but you just take care of your kids on the really essential things.
I need to contact HR tomorrow and see if I can take the kids off of my insurance before I get into totally celebrating. The open enrollment period was in May but there are qualifying reasons to change coverage. This would free up enough money that I could help my son fix our old beater car for when he gets his license, he wants to learn and do the work himself but we need a large engine job done first. So we would both be making choices that benefit the kids.
