I didn't know if I should put this post here or on the Health forum. :laff:
Even with our severe dryness and having to water the garden every other day, my cucumbers are doing great! I make Danish cucumber salad constantly, refrigerator pickles, put the cucs in salads, and eat plain. I want to try cucumber soup next.
Today I'm having them at all 3 meals! I think I'm turning just a little green, and am seeing those white seeds in my eyes. :~)

We're just having a big salad tonight for dinner, with an inordinate amount of cucumbers in it. I don't want to complain. I think its great to always have a big pile of cucumbers on the counter. I will definitely mourn their absence when Fall rolls around. Thank you cucumbers!

So jealous! Because of our summer's peculiar combination of cool/rain/etc. this year, we didn't see cucumber #1. I will live my cucumber dreams through you, CathyA :)

I'm sending you my best cucumber thoughts, Pug. :) Can you send me any zucchini thoughts? I didn't get any zucchini this year, which was a first. There are usually too many of them, and are the size of elephant legs.......but nothing this year.

The zucchini started out great, but petered out after a while. Only a few here and there, no elephant legs at all! :( Weird summer here.

Isn't that weird? We had a severe drought last year. Fortunately, we had alot of rain in the spring, 'cause we're about in a drought again. Its a little scary. I'd hate to think this is the way its going to be. Hasn't rained here in about 2 months. :( I hope I don't burn our new water pump out watering the garden too much.

Because of the combination of strange weather (cold, wet spring and now over 100*) and a nasty infestation of powdery mildew our poor cukes are struggling. One variety never did anything. The other produced reasonably well but this latest heat wave did them in. Maybe a fall crop...

I volunteer 2 mornings a week at a community building. There are 6 of us regulars, and no one ever locks their vehicles, so I've been "gifting" cucumbers to all the vehicles for the last 4 weeks or so. We have pickles and relish put up to last us till the zombie apocalypse.

Yesterday I found that 2 of our regulars had locked their trucks.

I've grown "County Fair" pickling cucumber for many years. Its one of the only varieties that cucumber beetles aren't attracted to. (they transmit wilt, which will kill the plants overnight).
They grow way too big and fast for a 'pickling' cucumber, but I don't care, since its the only way I can get any cucumbers at all.
I took this pic a couple years ago to show how big this "pickling" variety can get. This is a quart canning jar! :0!
