View Full Version : Diana Nyad
Anyone following the last few miles of her swim from Cuba to Key West?
What an inspiration! I am cheering her on in the name of anyone, of any age, who has a dream.
I was impressed to read that she was 90% of the way from Cuba to Florida- what gumption!
I am not following, exactly, but she has always been an inspiration to me.
I just went to read the news, and she finished! Yay!
Amazing.
Yes! She did finish.. Unbelievable. I was disappointed, however, in the anticlimatic media coverage of her hitting shore--looks like CNN couldn't get any closer than the throngs of people in the water and on shore who surrounded her, so you couldn't see the actual finish. Oh well. In any case, I'm looking forward to hearing her speak, once she gets her sea legs!
Wow, she is 64 years old and a wonderful inspiration of what one person's persistence can do. Yay is right!
She was persistent, and it paid off. A good role model.

I've been following her since the late 70's... She's a hero of mine, this is motivating me to going back to swimming, which I love, and used to be very good at. I need to exercise more to prevent a recurrence of cancer. She is amazing.

She's my new hero, that's for sure. I'm not surprised, redfox, that she's a hero of yours.. glad she's inspiring you to get back in the water!

Fantastic.
I've always wanted to do a long swim like that...I think about 5 hours would be my limit right now.
I love Diana Nyad. She was an inspiration to me back in my high school swim team days - in that long ago ancient world where women were just starting to be more involved in school sports and had few idols to worship and emulate. Love that she kept trying and trying and trying. Love her spirit and drive to succeed.

I emailed her story to my sister who is going to be in a triathalion this Saturday for the first time and has been preparing for quite some time now.
It was such an inspiration to see how long she has been trying to do this, how many times she attempted it and then how she was successful at her age!
