50th Anniversary of the March On WashingtonThe March On Washington For Jobs (http://www.ahhthesimplelife.com/martin-luther-kings-dream-great-distance-go/#) And Freedom took place on August 28,1963, when the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.delivered his clarion call for justice from the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall. On August 28, 2013, tens of thousands convened in the same place to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that historic event. It is an appropriate time to remember that great dream, to measure how far we have come, and to understand what we must do to fully realize that dream.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from his I Have A Dream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Have_a_Dream) speech:
” Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God’s children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.”
More from Rev. King:
“In our society, it is psychological murder to deprive a man of a job…you are in substance saying to that man ‘You have no right to exist’”.
“It’s all right to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.”
“I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education (http://www.ahhthesimplelife.com/martin-luther-kings-dream-great-distance-go/#) and culture of their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits. I believe that what self-centered men have torn down, men other-centered can build up I still believe that one day mankind will bow before the altars of God and be crowned triumphant over war and bloodshed, and nonviolent redemptive goodwill will proclaim the rule of the land.”
A Great Distance To Go
On the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, many commented on Rev. King’s dream; many expressed the belief that we have a great distance still to go.
What Would Martin Luther King Say? What do you suppose the Rev. King would have to say to us if he were alive today? Here’s what I think he’d say:
