View Full Version : It really does pay to call the cable company

When I moved here two years ago, I did quite a bit of research into the least expensive phone and internet and TV. Cell service is spotty here, and the new antennas for TVs don't work well because of all the hills (at least that's what I've been told). Ended up with a package deal that started at $99 a month and gradually increased over two years to $125/month.

So, with the 2 year plan ending, I called Comcast to see what the new cost would be and if there were any better plans. My current plan would rise to $150/month. But, there was a special offer for $119/month which included some extra cable channels.

So I thought about it for a week while I called the satellite TV company for comparison purposes and then called back and asked for the $119 package. The customer service rep then offered another plan for $99 a month, with a new cable box and high definition service, but no new cable channels. And it's a "plan," not a "contract." Which means I'm not locked into keeping the service for any length of time, but can make changes or cancel without penalty.

So I'm going back to the original cost I started with, plus upgraded equipment at no extra cost, and HD. Really, really don't need those extra cable channels in the other plan and never really wanted them. I have to admit that I love the quality of the HD signal. I can live without it, obviously. But there is a part of me that is really happy that I will have HD and at a lower cost than what I was paying.

I have a sort of phone phobia and I hate calling strangers and I hate talking on the phone and I hate asking for stuff, but I'm so glad I did.

Every month when you get that bill it will make you happy to have called. I LOVE on Demand with Comcast. Good for you for calling.
