I may have to quit eating chicken. Seems like this is not going to go over well............hopefully.

I'd recommend only buying chickens you can watch raised. You probably don't want to know what happens in large-scale poultry operations...

Absolutely. That's why I'm 90% vegetarian, and 10% meat locavore.

Yep. No more big industrial chicken (or beef, or pork, or....) for me. So many reasons not to support that, including this, CathyA. Look for humanely raised, locally produced chicken in your grocery store.....more and more it's not hard to find, and it's worth the extra cost.

I'll need to watch this - I stopped eating mammals a number of years ago. It's probably time to start thinking about cutting back on birds.

And because the poultry will be processed, it will not require country-of-origin labeling. Nor will consumers eating chicken noodle soup from a can or chicken nuggets in a fast-food restaurant know if the chicken came from Chinese processing plants.

Disgusting.

Bingo! I raise most of my own meat, but I still limit consumption of it. For one, every chicken or turkey I eat, that is one I can't offer to one of my customers, and one they can't get locally and sustainably. I can't raise enough to keep up with the demand. Not to mention it's expensive. At the $4 a pound price tag, when I eat it, I can't sell it. I'm reluctant to eat up all my profits.

But also, I limit meat consumption for health reasons.

I have bought meat from my local butcher for more than 20 years. All the meat (including chicken) is raised on his family's farms just outside our small city. He makes his own sausages, including our local favourite, larne sausage, as well as haggis. His foods are all organic. I also buy my eggs from the same source.

I am appalled, but not surprised at this report.

You probably don't want to know what happens in large-scale poultry operations...I've read about how chickens are treated in poultry operations and this is one reason I hardly eat any meat at all these days. The only time I do now is when I am on the go in a hurry and there's no other option than fast food. It just sickens me how animals are treated before they are slaughtered. Rob

Rob, it sickens me too. If I see a picture of it I am deeply disturbed for days.

Two of the states and I cannot recall which ones, have banned any filming of their animals. I cannot believed this passed. I am a vegetarian moving into veganism because I love animals and have empathy for them. What if I was them? We all feel pain the same way.....
