View Full Version : Too many funky, constantly changing colors..........

I bought a new shower curtain. I've been trying to figure out a color to make the rugs and towels. I thought it would be easy, but hardly any colors out there match. The greens are all funky, the beiges are all funky. All the colors are funky and don't seem to be traditional in any way. Its probably like everything else.........marketers think that they constantly have to change everything......even if nobody really asked for it to be changed.

As much as I curse Pinterest under my breath & I guess out loud too, I do find it a great resource for decor ideas..... right now I am following a thread that someone has up with images in the color turquoise.
I am a super visual person and get a real charge out of design and imagery - and a little shot of aqua can do the trick for me every now and then.

Anywho, maybe go to pinterest.com and type in the color you are trying to coordinate with and get some ideas that can weave in the newer palates with the old standards????
For some reason the Neons of the 80s have been brought back (which I guess were recycled for the 80s from 60s/70s???)... some things are better just left in the past :)

I think the colors suck right now, at least in clothing choices. Give it a year and a whole different slew of colors will be out. ;)

Last time I got a shower curtain I brought about five home and had the family look at them - I ended up with one I wouldn't have opted for in the store, but it went best in our bathroom. Surprisingly hard to select. (Of course I returned the others.)

That's why I stick with white.

White shower curtain, white car, white dishes.

I can't foresee a time when a shade of white will be out of fashion, or clash with another shade of white.

This is what happens to me alot...........I find one thing that I like pretty well, then try to "accessorize" around its colors......which then becomes a search of the holy grail. haha
I headed to Kohls this morning to use my 30% off coupon........and couldn't find anything. Well, the closest match to the colors in my shower curtain were of the Jennifer Lopez brand. Sorry.......but I just couldn't buy it.
I ended up buying stuff at Target for full price. I wanted my bathroom to be light and airy in its colors, but now I've bought dark green stuff. How did that happen? haha
But I can't believe how many towels were of obnoxious colors. You're right mtnlaurel........seems like the neon stuff is back.
I have about 2 weeks to watch and see if Target's stuff goes on sale, and I can get a price adjustment.
Anyhow..........on to more important things! I feel sort of stupid.......complaining about trying to color-coordinate new bathroom stuff, when people in the west have lost everything with the floods.

I guess my point was more about how the marketing people put stuff out there and try to make us think we need and like it. For the most part, it doesn't work with me, thankfully.

I bought some towels at Target several months ago, and we love them. They are "quick dry" or "fast dry" - anyhow, they were on sale for $4 for bath towels (only $5 regular) and I just love them. They are really absorbent and they dry fast, on the towel rod or out of the washer. Nice.

I got beige - I usually do opt for white but I've found white towels end up looking dingy pretty fast, and I don't do bleach.

Mom's home is from the 40s, the pink and black tile bathroom. Pink was big then it left, then it came back, then it left...........Mom's been looking for Pink towels my entire life time it seems. Good for her when pink is in :)

I have found the perfect solution to this dilemma. Whenever DW brings something new home and asks my opinion I say, "that's nice honey" and then return to my pleasantly apathetic normal state. There are significant advantages in the low expectations of others when you're a straight man with no fashion sense.

I ran into something similar years ago, getting angry about the "color dictators" changing the "current popular" hue. My bathroom was accessorized in what was then called seafoam green; when I went to get new towels and rugs years later there was no longer any products in that color. They still had a nice light green, but it was a completely different light green that truly clashed with the old hue. I ended up having to replace everything that was that color.

I'm sure that was their plan, BL! I find it pretty disgusting.
After much comparing, I finally (I think), settled on rugs and towels to go with my new shower curtain (which cost under $20, but I've spent soooooo much more on the other stuff!). Made myself crazy bringing home stuff I thought would match that inexpensive shower curtain, and then returning it for another color. I think I'm done. BUT........I just know that the color will change sometime in the near future and I won't be able to match it all again. :(
(Have to say.......I LOVE the shower curtain and didn't want to find a different one, just to find towels/rugs that matched. Its ferns and dragonflies......and was hard to match the greens.
I guess this is what my DD calls a "First World problem".

I came across a funny cartoon that sums up a lot of my feelings about Pinterest..... "Yea, Go Me!"
