Today I went to see a Naturopath for a 70 minute session. I thought I might have trouble remembering all that was said or miss vital information. So, I asked him if it was ok to tape the session. He commented that there is a first time for everything but allowed me to tape the session. I have to say it was very enlightening when I played it back on how we interacted. I NEVER realized how fast I talk. The poor guy. I was firing questions at him. He did a great job in answering. It sure gave me great insight as to how others may perceive me too. Also, taping helped reiterate some of the things he said. It is surprising how much we miss.

That was great that he let you tape the sessions and how it brought you some personal insights. Also how you learned a lot of things about what to do that may have slipped by if you didn't listen to the tape. Great idea!

What a good idea. I have never done this, but when my dh has sat in on doctor's appointments with me he always remembers things I missed.
I taped a doctor session once, but when I got home, it was all garbled and I couldn't understand a word! So test it out at home first.
I always take a list of everything I want to discuss with my doctor. Afterward he gives me a printed summary of the things we discussed and anything instructions or changes. He also emails me the results of lab tests and lets me know if there is anything out of line. This works well for me.
I convinced my parents to do this. They're seniors and are sometimes overwhelmed by all the information and will forget some of it. When getting test results and expecting not-so-good news, it's a lifesaver because people tend to go numb and not hear anything after the results. They've often replayed the tape and heard things they've missed the first time.

Florence, I do this too. I also get a summary and lists of lab results. The summary does NOT always include everything discussed. It was truly an eye opener to review what was discussed and what was relayed to paper! BTW in discussing this with my brother the attorney.... he stated you are not legally obligated to let anyone know you are taping them. I found this astonishing!
This taping is a GREAT idea. Thanks, frugal-one
