View Full Version : Macklemore's "Thrift Shop"
This video brought tears of happiness to my eyes, because it made me think of everyone on these boards! At last, we've hit the big-time of mainstream culture for singing the praises (literally) of thrift-store clothes shopping!

The above is a link to a Macklemore video called "Thrift Shop." Warning, there are more than a few f-bombs :0!, but the comedic value of it is more than worth it. I love the part where he talks about paying $50 for a t-shirt being for "ignorant b***es!" :laff: Enjoy!
Lol. That came out last year about this time. It was big in DD2's high school. The kids were heading to Goodwill and putting together some pretty outrageous outfits then all dancing around to this song. Since they were all 17 we parental units looked passed the f-bombs and got a good laugh. Can't wait to show my 17 year old grandchildren what their mom did when she was their age!
I adore that song, not the least because I think he's wearing a sweater I donated--the greenish one with black slashes. It's one of the few modern songs I recognize.
Yes, I also did the thrift-store-vintage-dress-with-manky-fur-stole look when in high school! I think I'll renew that look now that I'm pushing fifty...it still rocks! I thought of this song because some little girls at the Druze school I teach in--all Arabic speakers---ran up to me last week and started rapping this song en masse to me! "I'm gunna bob sum dags, I god twennydollas in my bocket..." etc! I'm going to record them!
Yea!!!! I posted about this back in March and heard crickets....

My kids are totally into pop music now and thankfully several of the radio stations in our area 'clean up' the songs.
Picture mom driving down the road singing at the top of her lungs "this is SUPER awesome" rather than "f-ing awesome" :) when they don't.
Who knew that our Simple Living message of being conscious when you bring items into your life could be ensconced in SO MANY curse words!
What a powerful group, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Macklemore is in recovery and has a very moving song about addiction and then they have another song out about Marriage Equality.
I was an 80s Teen and the movie Pretty in Pink got us all running to the thrift store.
Macklemore is one of the very few modern hip-hop artists with anything worthwhile to say. His latest track 'Same Love' is one of the best pro-gay marriage arguments I've ever heard. Even saw a couple of my old friends come around because of it. Beautiful stuff.
There's a duo called Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip from the UK who I'd class in the same vein.
