It's been a little more than a month since the troublesome corporate type left my company. That person had negative influence on GM with regards to me. Since corporate type has been gone, GM has been much nicer to me. In fact, he gave me a $25 Subway gift card (my Subway addiction is well known!) out of the blue a week ago. Shocked the heck out of me! :0! He saw my mouth on the floor and said I'd been doing a very good job and to keep it up.

Anyway, I was given back two customers last week that I'd not handled since I started doing more on the customs side, we'll call them customers A & B, which was about two years ago.

Customer A is medium volume, but high maintenance. It had been split between two people, one on transportation side, the other doing just customs.

Customer B is high volume, but very low maintenance. I was still officially in charge of this customer, and did anything really weird.

You may remember me talking much last summer (2012) about a woman (J) who was often found cat napping at her desk, refused to take on anything extra for a while, etc. Well, she's retiring in the spring (exact date unknown). She had been handling customers A & B, which along with other customers, are being moved off her desk to prepare for her retirement. She will not be replaced, we're told.

Customers A & B were given back to me a week ago. Customer B is in a bit of a lull right now, so J finished up a few things and just handed everything over to me yesterday, as she was going on vacation. So really, I only had customer A this past week. I expressed reservations that it might be too much on top of everything else I do.

I was overwhelmed immediately with having to handle Customer A on top of everything else I do. Tuesday was especially bad. I quietly told supervisor I was in a bad way with my workload and something was going to have to be done. They had proof of how bad things were for me when a large pile of files was on my desk all week. My desk NEVER looks like that. I worked a 12 hour day and then a couple of 11 hour days this week. A lot of stuff was pushed to the side due to dealing with customer A's stuff.

Well, Thursday I learned that customer A was going to be given to two other people (split up again, customer prefers it that way). Thank goodness. I was very relieved. And somewhat astonished they actually really listened to me.

Sometimes the right things eventually happen. I am certain that your work performance and accomplishments are a big part of how your requests and interests are being so honored. And, probably much more an influence that the person who left.
