OK, I'm updating my resume (which I should have done before) so I can submit for a job tonight (that Michigan one - I had some regrets about not pursuing it at all)

My problem: I've been at current company almost 7 years. In that time, I've gone through two mergers, and my duties really changed with the merger two years ago, although it added on to what I was already doing.

I had an old format of "action words" and responsibilities listed in paragraph form. Bullet points would look cleaner, but don't really convey what I do.

There's no way I'm going to be at 1 page. It will be 2, maybe 3. I've got 20 years experience in my industry, so I'm no noob.

Any idea on how to format this information?

Thanks!

If you are already satisfied with your formatting, keep or modify it as you like and forget about sticking to one page. Mine is two pages, even though I have had only three jobs in the last twenty years. The second page has all of my volunteer work. If you need three pages, then you need them, but my guess is that you can combine, condense and organize your skills more effectively.

Paragraph form is less easy to read, and if you prefer to not use bullet points (I totally understand what you mean), then at least use a reduced line space between the grouped sentences. Much easier for anyone reading, especially if each prepares the way for the information in the next sentence/group.

Just a quick note on this: I don't know what size typeface you are using, but you won't want to go beneath 9 pts. (typically anything smaller than that is unreadable). If you're using subheadings, you might want to reduce the size of those by 1 or 2 pts.

I read a fair number of resume, and I am more interested ins good presentation of the candidate's experience than I am in keeping to one page. But that said, I DO like one pagers!

Tradd, I would think that for you, if you are mentioning non-shipping industry experience, that would be no more than 2 bullet points. The rest of it needs to show steady progression in your industry.

But I think tha tyou said a headhunter helped you with your resume, so that is moot.

Not a headhunter, but someone with experience doing many resumes. My resume is fantastic, now.
