View Full Version : frozen roast chicken - how long to keep
I just found a ziploc bag in the freezer with roast chicken from 6 months ago. (at least I actually dated it...) Is it still edible? Will it still taste ok? Or should I just toss it and try to be a bit more aware of what's going in the freezer next time...

of course it is fine. We eat meat frozen for years.
Thanks for the responses.
I guess I know what we'll be having for dinner one day this week! I love taking roast chicken and heating it up with buffalo sauce and making sandwiches.
I was just concerned that cooked meat wouldn't last as long in the freezer as raw meat does.

Only six months? Assuming your freezer is doing its job, it's fine. Meat can stay frozen for a fairly long time, though its quality deteriorates gradually over that time. At six months, I would not hesitate to use it as-is; there should be no need to to add sauces or such to "reconstitute" it. Unless you want to, of course. :)
