I never knew that rope caulk could be easily removed in the spring. Good idea.

I saw that article, I get their email. It's a good one, lots of ideas I hadn't seen before. I might try the plexiglass double pane window thing, it would be less expensive than replacing my crappy windows.

Reader99, we did a similiar plexiglass thing years ago for our second floor steel framed windows. They had a sill that the plexiglass sat on and a magnetic seal around the ourside of the pane. Worked wonders. You could even see them flex a little during windy storms. Something like that hightly recommended to cut the air infiltration. We tried the plastic on one window that had issues here and it was also good.

I did not find rope caulk, but I found a cool plastic in the right size for the ginormous windows and it has fabric tape on the top edge to make it easier to hang and fasten. I also found a rubbery weatherstripping that will fit around the door frame without getting in the way, and a fabric double tube thing for under the door. $25 and it will save much more than that in fuel costs.

I looked at Pexiglas, but it would cost a middle-sized fortune, as would any of the other fixes.
