Hi!

I did try your tip to use marigolds to keep squash bugs away from my butternut squash, and it worked a little bit. I still had bugs, but not as many. But........I also had very few squash and the ones I had were really little.
Question: I planted a ton of them all through where the squash grew. Is it possible I grew too many and they stole nutrients from the squash? Is it okay for me to till all these marigolds into the soil?
We did have a bit of a drought this year, but I did water the squash alot.......so I'm not sure why they didn't grow so well. Without as many squash bugs, I wasn't sure what happened. The only thing I could think of was that I planted too many marigolds in the same area....??
Any ideas?

Hi Cathy, sorry that your squash didn't do so well. It might have been the marigolds since you planted a lot throughout them. I usually plant a thick border of marigolds, so it may have been the issue, like you said they took a lot of nutrients from the soil. I would not till the marigolds in with the soil as the heads are loaded with seeds! Hope this help! Chris
