View Full Version : My fitness class smells like a toxic soup lately

I love my young fitness instructor, I love my workouts, and I love the people that go, but the class moved to a basement and some serious smells appeared. First, it was the sand bags to do cleans and I emailed him about it and he washed them off and let them off gas outside. Tonight it smelled like it was full of toxins and I just spent the whole hour worrying about it. One lady pointed out he uses Pine Sol on a daily basis (Environmental Working Group rates it a D) and she also told me he had refinished/painted? the big weights. Anyway, I suppose I could talk to him again, but I guess I just need to quit and go somewhere else. Any thoughts?

Smells in a basement are especially worrying. It is difficult to ventilate and so many do not do it at all. Molds and mildew come from moisture and do not have to be evident from water stains. We keep a dehumidifier working in our home basement to keep down the water vapor.

Paint, varnish and chemicals are concentrated in a basement area and I personally would look for another location.

Yeah, I feel really bad. But I know there are a lot of other places I can go. My instincts say take off. I seem to be sensitive to smells and worry a lot about stuff like that, but I was really happy..until recently. Oh well, maybe this is my chance to do some yoga again or something new.

Good grief, go where you feel comfortable. Life is too short to be miserable, especially when there is an easy fix. Take care of you, not the instructor!
