I think I saw a post on here recently about how to hem jeans keeping the original hem. Maybe I saw it somewhere else, not here. Sorry, just don't remember. Anyway, I tried it a couple of days ago and it worked great. Now I am thinking: why can't you apply this technique to other items that need hemming? I have a sweatshirt that hangs way too long on me and it has a straight hem, not a ribbed type, so today I think I am going to try the same thing with it as I did with the jeans. Since it involves cutting I am a bit skittish but I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you have used this hemming method, have you tried it on other pieces of clothing? It is the one where you turn up the leg, sew very closing to original hem then cut off the excess. When you turn the hem back down you have a shortened pair of jeans with the original hem.:)

I know what you're talking about. I have it pinned on Pinterest :) I did this on a dress for my daughter and it worked great. The dress was a heavy knit btw, similar to a sweatshirt.

Link to the method? I have had to hem things most of my adult life.

O.K. I did it. I hemmed the sweatshirt and it turned out great also, just like the jeans. I am loving this! Shadowmoss I will provide a link for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdXxRuIqBh4, but there are many many tutorials on youtube, or just google "easy way to hem jeans" and you will find both video and text tutorials. I cut off the excess, but in the linked tutorial she doesn't. Of course her hem was much smaller than any I have made so far so cutting off the excess was a must for me. I think it would feel better too, less bulky.

Thanks sunnyjoe, that is the original one I saw when I decided to tackle doing the jeans. I just didn't remember where it was.
