buying sheets

We haven't purchased sheets in quite a while and were very surprised to see how expensive any of quality now are. When did that happen? They have literally doubled since we last bought them. Wondering if anyone has ideas on best place to buy - don't want the sleezy microfiber kind - just good old fashioned percale.

We tend to buy ours at Bed, Bath and a Beyond but they are not cheap. You may want to wait for the time of year when sheets and bedding go on sale. Someone else will know when that is cannot remember it right now!

My last set of new sheets were purchased at Target a couple of years ago and they were priced decently. They were touted as having a very high thread count which I was skeptical of, it being Target, but I have been pleasantly surprised. They have a very pleasing finish and I think they are pretty much cotton. They also have the new style very deep mattress pocket which is very very useful in keep them on the bed.

I believe January is traditionally the time for sheets and bedding sales.

I know that I saw percale sheets once when I was at work. I work at target. I'm not sure if we have them now but it might be worth checking. Sometimes we have coupons on line or on the cartwheels app. And always check the end caps for clearance. I recently bought the simply shabby chic cotton sheets on clearance and using a coupon and so far I really like them.

We just bought a set from Sierra Trading Post that were very well-made and not at all expensive.

I bought a set at Ross Dress for Less! $25 for flannels. May not last more than a few years. Costco has sheets. Yes, they are pricey. I get most of our cotton ones at Goodwill, because the quality is amazing. We live in a wealthy city.

I'd probably look for organic cotton ones (on Amazon or something), though really I haven't bought sheets in forever anyway (well I have silk sheets on my wish list but they've been there forever, that's fantasy - and organic cotton more like what I'd do if I was actually buying).

Sheet-buying is no longer my department (can't remember the last time I bought any) but I will point out that the preference for high thread count has increased the amount of material/manufacturing time needed and the current mode of very tall mattresses also require more sheet material.

Some of the home discount stores are good. I have bought sheets in Marshall's at a reasonable price, although sometimes it's hard to get stuff that matches.

I know, and "high thread count" is not my requirement, it's a fashion of the moment. That's why it can now be found at Target although that originally started with the hoi-poi. I'd be happy with Goodwill sheets if I could find them. I took two sets of sheets from a friend who was moving and we used those for years.

But I have to say, the new-fashion deep mattress pocket is VERY nice. I don't have new-fangeled thick mattresses but still, it's nice to have them fit so securely.

I think you can find good deals---if you shop around and have time to wait. For example, I bought nice flannel sheets from Amazon.com for $21, but that was in June. Now they cost $35
