My house in SC sold yesterday, closed, money in bank. What a relief. It is considered a dumb move to buy first and sell second, but that is what we did. Both houses were bought as foreclosures. We sold SC at a slight loss when you consider what we put into it, but not much, and we lived there for 3 years with a wonderful fenced in yard for dogs, 10 minutes from the ocean, 400 dollar a year property taxes--anyway, it was a great house, but it was time to sell and move due to DH's desire to get back up north (and his worldclass allergic reactions to bug bites, which led to 3 ER visits and blood poisoning. He is NOT a Southerner, unfortunately.) When you consider what rental would have been for similar set up, we probably saved $20,000.
What a relief. I dislike owning property at a distance, although I would consider it again for a rental, not that far, though.
Market seems fine--but we are definitely bottom feeders when it comes to houses--each one gets cheaper. A lot to be said for buying small and paying cash. But we had 2 offers by 5th day on market, then accepted one, but she couldn't get her financing, and then that fell through and 2 more offers--one from the original person who offered without actually being in the house--saw it on the net.
Am truly sad not to live in SC anymore--the people are lovely and it was a much more diverse area than here, with history and awesome winters, but bloom where you're planted, huh?
