It's a question many of us ask ourselves often, when we receive something of questionable value, but the wheels start spinning....

My garden has given me two big bags of wood shavings (the curly, thin kind, generated from a planer). I'm thinking:

Compost (in small quantities, since it breaks down so slowly)
Mulch for paths
Get some wax and make fire starters

Anything else you can think of?

Animal bedding
Stuffing for pet beds -- or beanbag chairs
Throw handfuls into a fire pit
Donate to a local manufacturer of structured wood/resinated wood/fiberboard

Make some kind of winter or holiday wreath?

If you want to grow blueberries, shavings can be about 1/3 of the mixture to plant the blueberries in.

I would mulch plants with it. I regularly mulch with wood chips.

Do you know what kind of wood it is? There are some woods that are not good to mulch veggies with.

It's pine -- but I don't think veggies would care for it as mulch (it'll tend to rob the soil of nitrogen). I DO however have a bunch of ornamental shrubs that might not mind it, and I wouldn't have to battle weeds so much underneath them - good thoughts! Thanks everybody.
