Jay Shafer has separated from Tumbleweed and is working on developing a tiny house village. It'll be zoned as a trailer park, but won't be a trailer park in the sense of the previous thread about trailer parks. Sounds interesting!

Planned communities give me the willies and make me feel all Stepford.

Of course you know that I am drawn to them, however. I cannot help it. But in this village I would not be able to own the tiniest house of all of my friends, that would make me sad.

Here where I live, I revel in owning tiny hobby houses, which, if I rolled them all up into one clump they would all fit within the houses of most of our friends with room to spare. It IS a competition and I WILL win tiniest house owner, haha.

Now, onto the topic at hand--hope Sonoma Co will grant this exception to sq footage requirements. It will be an interesting experiment.

Sounds as though the organization of "cohousing" would be needed for all to live so close in harmony. But if they cannot get financing, owners will have to pay cash and will somewhat self select.

I see a lot of issues that "rules" will have to contain. Simple things like renting out lots as second homes will decrease the "community" feel of such a place. I would need room for cats and quilting so tiny is out.

I think they got past the zoning issues by getting it approved as an RV trailer park. I agree that the close proximity of such small living units will present issues, but plenty of urban people do it so that shouldn't be an insurmountable problem. Personally I'd consider buying one as a second home depending on where in sonoma county it is and what the pricing ends up being. We'd love to have a place up there for weekends and small and comparatively inexpensive would be perfect for that purpose.

Cute, but they are right on top of each other. Not comfortable.
