Looking for suggestions for,a potato recipe to feed a crowd I can put in a crockpot. I could do scalloped potatoes, or even baked mashed. Any suggestions? Need to feed about 20

The nice thing about potlucks is you don't really have to make enough for everyone. There's always someone who doesn't like or want different things.

If there is gravy involved in this meal then mashed potatoes would be the one to make and then keep warm in the crockpot, in my opinion...

Think that mostly everyone loves mashed potatoes!

Actually, there are 50 people. The person involved assigned entrees, salads etc. I got potatoes and she suggested to serve about 20. There are about 30 dishes assigned as many are bringing spouses. I give the organizer a lot of credit. She has gone through a lot of work and the variety should be awesome.

I tried a potato dish that started with garlic mashed potatoes and then some dillweed sprinkled on top and grated cheese. It was amazing as I had never imagined dillweed with potatoes.
The recipe below suggests chives as an alternative with some parsley.

Some recipes suggest using frozen shredded potatoes and adding an egg-milk mixture before baking. Some also suggest sprinkling some diced and cooked bacon throughout after mashing the cooked potatoes.

Do you require a vegetarian starch recipe? Just a thought to consider.

I agree with razz, a garlic mash potato dish with springs of something green, and dill sounds great!

I love scalloped potatoes with good quality cheddar cheese.

Lots of middle-aged and up people have problems digesting garlic. I avoid garlic when cooking for others. If you love it, you could put a small bowl of roasted garlic for those who wish to add it.

I like colcannon - there's actually a lot of variations, I like using kale.

Or, the Scots' version of colcannon, called rumbledethumps!

Why not just keep it simple and make 20 foil wrapped baked potatoes. Provide a few side containers of sour cream, shredded cheese, salsa, butter, salt & peppers like a baked potato bar.

The more ingredients you add to a dish, the less appetizing it usually is sitting at a potluck. No matter how delicious it may be, too much of a question as to what is really in that mystery dish of goo.

I like IshbelRobertson's suggestion of rumbledethumps, being somewhat of a potato myself. The BBC recipe refers to Swedes (or turnips) which in US grocers usually go by the name Rutabaga. BTW rutabagas are usually sold coated with parafin... which I would peel off.

Just wanted to report that For this holiday party (I posted this thread in November 13) I ended up making garlic mashed potatoes. I added cream cheese, butter, roasted garlic and sour cream to seven lbs of potatoes. I used a crockpot liner so cleanup was easy. It was a huge hit. The wierd thing was several people bought cold food like lasagna with no attempt to heat it up. Like out of the fridge cold.

Glad that worked out well for you.

That rumbledethumps sounds good! I make colcannon quite a bit (and our little wild green onions are out now - just right) but have never tried it with turnips. Yum!
