Okay, this is going to seem stupid, but my brain dropped some cells and I couldn't think whether the foil tent over the turkey should be shiny side in or out. I search on it and a bunch of sites say to tent the turkey but they don't mention shiny side in or out. Surely it matters?
I don't think it matters. But I would put the shiny side out. You just want to keep the heat in, and you don't need the reflective side, like you might while covering a pan while cooking in the oven.

I found this. Short answer seems to be it doesn't make much difference.
Saw an aluminum executive on a Letterman/Jay Leno type show several years back to answer this very question. He explained the difference...one side of the aluminum goes over the manufacturing rollers and the other side doesn't so much. There isn't really a wrong side or right side to aluminum foil.
I have often wondered about this as well so thanks for the info.

Hunh. I gone all my life believing that the shiny side would reflect heat away, so if the shiny side were out it would cause less heat to get into the cooking area. It's interesting to me to find out that something I've taken for granted for decades isn't so. I've encountered several such things recently.

We don't use foil at all.
