I used to work on this program (haven't for a few years) and it is a great opportunity to bring a native speaker of Mandarin or Arabic to your K-12 school -- encourage those with an interest in promoting foreign language teaching in your local schools to look into it and share the information with your school administration. Message below cut and pasted from a program announcement:
"Do you know U.S. teachers or schools that want to globalize their classrooms by offering more opportunities to learn new languages or study abroad? Schools and students can access these opportunities today with the help of grants funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by American Councils for International Education.
Start or Grow Your Arabic/Mandarin Program - Host an Exchange Teacher
The Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP) places EFL teachers from China and Egypt in U.S. host schools for an academic year where they teach Mandarin or Arabic language and culture. TCLP provides teachers’ salaries, healthcare, roundtrip airfare, training, professional development funds, and ongoing program support.
To speak with a host school alumnus about their TCLP experience, you are invited to join an online webinar I will present on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 4pm eastern time.
For more information, or to apply, please visit www.tclprogram.org.
Application Deadline: January 22, 2014"
