Computer weirdness.......how did this happen? [Archive]

My internet connection at home is a WiFi. I was chatting with my DD and had the computer speaker on so I'd hear the ding when she replied. The only thing I was in, was a chat window. All of a sudden, I'm hearing stuff coming through the computer speaker. It sounded like a trailer for a movie, and then an ad for the Droid. Where did that come from??

I've had situations where I watched something embedded on a web page and then go off and do something else - and then the web page fires off something else when I'm not it.

My older speakers would pick up two-way radio stuff from vehicles going by, but I don't think you'd get a movie trailer from that.

Could also have come from either you or DD if one of you (or both) were using a free-but-ad-sponsored version of the chat software.

Sometimes I will open an article to read but get busy and all of a sudden there is an ad going on for something. They imbed a lot of video advertisements on websites now. Most likely that is what happened. There is software out there that will stop this.
