I figured out what to give my parents for Christmas. I went to the farm for Thanksgiving and found some branches in the pile from the logs that dad had made the cabin out of (he'd planted those trees 47 years ago when they bought the farm, I was just born). I sliced them thin, sanded the sides and drilled a hole and I've been giving my woodburning tool a workout. I'm making ornaments for the tree at the cabin! Each one has a snowflake on one side and all sorts of things on the other. Trees, birds, animals (deer, fox, quail, owl, etc), ice skates, sleds, It's been fun and I know they'll love this inexpensive, meaningful gift.

While home we also cut a overgrown pine (we use to have a Christmas tree farm), found the old wreath maker and some of the metal rounds and mom and I made 15 or so wreaths - enough for my house (door, dormer windows, studio door), her house, and the cabin.

Sounds wonderful!!! Especially the ornaments. Hmmm... maybe I need to invest in a woodburning tool. I remember a sister had one as a kid. Loved the smell!!!

That ties in with the sentiment that there is no greater joy than creating by hand--and such a meaningful medium!

The cabin is getting closer to being done all the time. They just installed most of the flooring. Still have the bathroom to finish out and the kitchen area. But it's warm with the woodstove and they have some mattresses in the loft. I need to update the blog some more. I'll post an ornament photo as soon as I have a few more done. I think I need a 2nd woodburning tool so the boys can help too.
