The Times They Are A-Changing.....

After all my posts about health care, I wanted to post something positive. It seems as though something I honestly never thought I would see happen has happened. Seriously. Same sex marriage is now legal in Utah! I am completely floored. Completely. I was in Utah this past summer for a job that didn't work out in far NE Utah, 37 miles north of the town of Vernal. After my brief experience there I would never have believed that this would happen in Utah.

I guess I have to remember that there are positive changes going on too and I need to focus on them a bit more. Same sex marriage is now legal in New Mexico, too, so I am surrounded by three states in which it is legal - California, Utah, and New Mexico. Wow, I never would have thought that would happen. I am just floored. Rob

Big article in today's local paper about how the entire definition of family is changing. In the very near future as older generations pass, it probably won't be an issue at all.

That's very, very surprising to me, Rob, but so happy to hear it. I may be alone in this, but I see the fuss about same-sex marriage as being one of those things that future generations look back on and shake their heads about, much like the anger about interracial marriage in previous generations. "Really? All the horrible things happening to the world and you guys had time to worry about things like that?"

There are many, many positive things happening in the world, all around us, every day. We are not wired to look for them any more, and the media certainly doesn't encourage it; good news doesn't sell ad space. Glad you're seeing more of it :)

Some people managed to get married after the judge's decision, but the powers that be are scrambling to get a stay until their appeal is heard. Large crowds of applicants have shown up at county offices, but have mostly been turned away until a decision comes down. Utah is desperately trying to fend off the inevitable, IMO.
