Our craft project for the day. I bought big soaps at Whole Foods, and have lots of roving on hand, as I spin with it. DH & I did seven bars. They're drying now. We'll see how they turn out!

I'm glad you posted this. I'd seen felted soaps but I didn't get the concept until the article explained they were a combined washcloth/soap.

On a related note, I just tried soap scrubs for the first time. Xmas gift. They're a great product, but messy to use - I've decided the word "scrub" is there to remind you to scrub the bath floor after you've used it!

I've now completed a dozen of these, and used one this morning! I love it. We have another family holiday gathering this Sunday, and everyone is getting one!

Hi again Redfox, what was it like when you used it? What type of soaps did you use?

First round was big, scented Castile soaps from Whole Foods. This round was glycerin soaps, smaller & less strongly scented, from our food coop. I prefer the second soaps. Here's a pic:

I also finger carded the roving to look marbleized for this batch, except for the bigger bar in the upper left. That's my DH's fav soap. The bar I actually used in the shower this morning had a bit of fuzz come off of it, but I think this will continue to felt down with use. It was nice to scrub with, and the sudsy ness was quite moderate. I am liking this!

I also finished a second neck cowl, the pattern you shared, only this time with lace weight alpaca & merino wool knitted together. It looks great! I blocked it today, and got so inspired that I am starting some alpaca fingerless gloves to match. All for my niece this Sunday... Thanks so much for the inspiration,Tussimussies!

So interesting Redfox, where did you find out about the felted soaps idea? Do you ever make your own soaps? You have to post a picture of the neck cowl and gloves. The fingerless gloves should be fantastic with it. I bet your niece will just love it! chris

The Apartment Therapy post about felted soaps showed up on FB. I've not made soap, but you can be sure it's now on my list!

The cowl: I used three strands of lace weight yarn that I found at GW, two pale pink baby alpaca, and a self-striping merino wool. The gloves are being knitted using the same yarns, in blocks, using this pattern: http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2011/10/9/whits-knits-colorblock-hand-warmers.html
