View Full Version : Jaguar Ambassadors Gang?
Anyone ever heard of this group? They placed a full page ad in our alternative rag and it piqued my interest as it reminds me of the 60s-70s revolutions. There is so much apathy now that it is unusual to see this springing up. Admittedly, there are lots of rambling on their web page so I don't know how seriously to take any of it but boy could we use some revolution against consumerism:

I had not heard of them but just went to the website. It is sad that we are destroying the natural habitat of many species. Near us bears are dying because people are not willing to buy more expensive bear garbage canisters so they keep coming for food. They get used to people and if relocated a few times and they come back they end up euthanized. They are trying to make the garbage containers mandatory but no luck so far. Also some moron was feeding the bears by her house which led to it's death. There is a saying here "That a fed bear is a dead bear."

So how expensive are the more expensive bear garbage canisters? Couldn't someone (well maybe you, I don't even live there :) - but it seems a worthy cause) just start up a fund to buy people the more expensive bear garbage canisters and give them away for free? Local community fundraising and then get more funds via kickstarter or indiegogo, etc.. That seems a more promising route.

The community is very wealthy-we live an hour away. Small condos start at 500,000 with homes 1 million & up. They can easily afford the cans. I think they are about 200 each. They are trying to make it mandatory for that community which they should. I do a lot of volunteer work but these people don't need it.

Yea though it really doesn't matter whether they can afford it or not. If handing out free garbage cans would encourage them to use them it seems a good idea. Of course it's not about giving money to the well off, it's about the bears.

that's fine, but until then. The city could also just supply the garbage cans, I mean cities supply the normal garbage cans generally anyway, tack it on the trash bill if need be.

yea but it's not for them, it's for the bears. If they got some benefit out of it, it's incidental. Anyway my point was not you or anyone MUST start a fund raising project (now get to it already, ask not what your country can do for you ... :)), but just it seemed a problem with a glaringly easy solution, raise funds, buy garbage cans.
Of course I imagined one actually living in the community and thus making a change to their local community, as a very direct hands on project (and not adopting rich communities one doesn't even live in to "save" :)), but I wouldn't be surprised if people could get some indiegogo funds from outside of the community since it is a good cause, people could probably be made to care about bears and desire to do direct things to help wildlife.
The house and condo prices - yea that's what they are around here too.

Your post got me thinking that I should suggest your solution to the local "Save the Bears Group" that is active around here. This might be something that they could work on. Thanks for the suggestion:~) Your one comment made me laugh. The house prices where we live now really took a dive in 2006 which is good for people buying now but not good for people that bought in the past. My kids will benefit when they buy in the Spring. The prices drops did not really affect the rich community an hour away.
