View Full Version : LOL....guess my TV has reached its life expectancy?

My "old" TV is still working fine. Except......something I taped last night didn't tape right, and I realized it was set to the wrong day.......even though the clock in it was set to Jan 1. Well, in resetting the clock in it, I discovered it doesn't go any further than 2013! It was good from 1994 to 3013.
Oh......I guess its the VCR?? At any rate.......something that I have supposedly only had a life expectancy of 20 years. We got it in 1996. Nothing like planned obsolescence! But I think I out-smarted it, and just picked a year that had a Wednesday for January 1. (which was 2008). :~)

Can you still buy tapes? How do you set channels now? (I still have a vcr for a couple of how to tapes, probably could find the stuff on Youtube)
I haven't got rid of it but debate about doing so.

2008 will work until the end of February - 2008 was a leap year, so I expect your VCR will go to February 29. But if you pick a new year then you should be good for a long time.

I think 2008 was the most recent year where Jan 1 fell on a Wednesday.

I know there is a math formula for it, but I haven't ever had to learn or use it. I have a perpetual calendar from my grandfather, when he was in the funeral business (goes from 1826-2026). 2003 matches exactly, and you won't have to reset it.

Sounds like groundhog day waiting to happen.
